Unnayan Onneshan is participating at the book fair in remembrance of the martyred of language movement in 1952. Every year it is organized by Bangla Academy from 1st February to the 29th February. Books, publication, research works are brought close to the people. All publications and report of Unnayan Onneshan is available in the book fair stall.

 

Round table discussion on “The Role of IMF in Policy Making in Bangladesh

Unnayan Onneshan has organized a round table discussion on “The Role of IMF in Policy Making in Bangladesh” at CIRDAP auditorium on 20th October, 2007. Md. Iqbal Ahmed presented a paper on the issue. Ahmed showed the effect of IMF policies with empirical data and ended with questioning its role. Civil society personality, NGO activist and professors of economics from different universities were present there. They presented their analysis and criticized the role of these institutions. Alliance for Economic Justice, Bangladesh

Bangladesh National Coalitions’ Events in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in Batam People’s Forum and Parallel to Singapore WB-IMF Annual General Meeting, September, 2006

Bangladesh national coalition of civil society organisations, involving NGOs, social movements, trade unions, women’s groups, grassroots organisations, networks, and research and advocacy organisations, which have been resisting the IFI policies and neo-liberal development paradigm, have planned a host of activities in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in Batam, Indonesia at the International People’s Forum, and in Singapore parallel to the World Bank and the IMF Annual General Meeting.

The like-minded organisations, having been actively engaged in this area at their individual organisation levels in accordance with mandates of respective organisations,  felt the need for a national coalition for collective activities,  and have initiated the Orthonoitik Naybichar Sanghoti Porishad [Alliance for Economic Justice, Bangladesh-AEJB in English]. The membership to the national coalition is open to all organisations and activists, who subscribe to the WSF Charter of Principles.

People’s Solidarity Forum for Fair Trade

The People’s Solidarity Forum for Fair Trade has been organized to campaign for fundamental change to unjust rules and institutions governing international trade. The two-day Forum will be held on 2 – 3 December 2005 in Dhaka to call for fair trade - not free trade - as the World Trade Organization meets in 13 – 18 December in Hong Kong.

 

The Forum is called on to express solidarity for:

§         LDCs  right to decide on trade and development policies;

§        secured, meaningful implementation of principle of preferential treatment by the developed countries

§    stopping the push by developed countries to open the economies of LDCs and abide by the          principle lessthan full reciprocity
