People’s Solidarity Forum for Fair Trade

The two day long 'People’s Solidarity Forum for Fair Trade' started in the city on Friday, December 2, 2005. Unnayan Onneshan, a development research organisation in association with ten leading NGOs and NGO networks of the country organised the event with a view to initiate a campaign for fundamental change in the unjust rules and institutions governing international trade in the upcoming Hong Kong ministerial to be started from December 13, 2005.

The programme kicked off through a civil society dialogue titled ’Riding on the Road – Options for Bangladesh in the Sixth WTO Ministerial Conference’ to be held at the CIRDAP auditorium in the city at 10 am.

The second day of the Forum held at Rabinrda Sarobor, Dhanmondi Lake, Road–8/A on Saturday included programmes such as People’s Panel on WTO, Agriculture, Labour, Handicrafts Fair, Film show, Photographic Exhibition Folk Songs, Popular Theatre, and Solidarity Speeches.The 'People’s Solidarity Forum for Fair Trade’ .

The co-organisers of the programme were; Make Trade Fair Campaign, Nijera Kori, BILS, Rupantor, INCIDIN, SUPRO, PHM Bangladesh, Karmojibi Nari, Ecota Fair Trade Forum, and Ain O Salish Kendro.

People’s Solidarity Forum for Fair Trade - DHAKA DECLARATION

The people of Bangladesh and their compatriots in other least developed countries (LDCs) were promised time and again including in Marrakesh, Singapore, Geneva, and Doha that they would enjoy better livelihood and the disadvantaged would be lifted out of poverty. Out of 5,350 words used in the Doha Ministerial Declaration more than 40 per cent are devoted to developing and least developed countries (LDCs).
